Steph Bouillion never thought she’d be a firefighter.
The odds seemed to be against her. Last December, the 27-year-old became one of just two women hired by the Garland Fire Department in nearly 15 years.
“I know I’m one of a few,” she said.
In North Texas, female firefighters are scarce. Data provided to The Dallas Morning News by 20 fire departments in the Dallas-Fort Worth area shows that as of June, women made up more than 2 percent of firefighters in just six departments.

Officials confirmed that a suspect is now in custody.
This is now a homicide and fire investigation. Family members tell us a 68-year-old man was shot and killed early this morning on Selden Road. Sheriff Patrick O'Flynn says it appears the suspect wanted police to shoot him.
Officials say the suspect set his own house on fire and then went to a neighbor's house and shot a man, who was in bed.

Village officials say public safety could be at risk if relations between the Rochester and Waterford fire departments are not improved.

VIDEO - A crash involving a fire truck in West Philadelphia left several firefighters injured Sunday morning.

A federal judge has ruled a former Orono fire chief’s lawsuit against the town may go forward on the age discrimination and retaliation counts.
U.S. Magistrate Judge John Nivison on Wednesday dismissed Norman “Buddy” Webb’s allegation that he was discriminated against based on a disability.
Webb, 65, of Orono, is seeking compensatory damages, including back pay and pay he would have received had he not been fired, and attorney’s fees.
