Richard Smith lost his left leg to diabetes a year ago and is starting to feel loss of sensation in his other leg. At age 72, the retired maintenance worker kept ending up on the floor in his apartment. The 6-foot-1-inch, 230-pound man was too big to lift for his wife, who stands at 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 120 pounds.

Kansas City Fire Department helps brothers in blue get out of a tight spot at police academy

PHOTO - We call police when we need help. As it turns out, police needed to call the Kansas City Fire Department when they ended up stranded in a tight spot! Gregg Favre from the St. Louis Fire Department tweeted out a picture of the rescue. An elevator malfunctioned inside the police academy near 435 and Pleasant Valley Road.

Mississippi fire department says no to dreadlocks, sued for $2.5 million

He really wanted to be a firefighter, Larry Christmas Jr. said, but he gave up his dream and filed a lawsuit because the fire department insisted he cut off his dreadlocks. In the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court, Christmas accuses the city of racial discrimination. He requests $500,000 in compensation for losing the job and $2 million in damages designed to punish the city.

Indiana firefighter’s helmet cam video captures explosion at house fire

VIDEO - A Whiteland volunteer firefighter captured a scary moment while battling a house fire on Monday. Crews were called to the 500 block of Greensprings Drive in Whiteland around 1 a.m. When they arrived on scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames. Within the first few minutes of attacking the fire, a vehicle’s fuel tank exploded.

The train was stopped for more than 20 minutes while firefighters from multiple agencies attempted to reach a burning home. Missouri Fire Chief Officially Regains Position

Richard Stirts has now officially regained his position as fire chief, this time with a full-time title. Chief Richard Stirts told KOLR 10 that a tax increase passed in August 2015 included a stipulation that the Fire Chief position be moved from a part-time to a full-time position. On his Facebook page today, Stirts said the board held a special meeting Sunday where they voted to name him the full-time chief.

North Carolina firefighters injured in explosion

Phosphoric acid found along the shoreline at Biltmore Lake exploded Tuesday night, injuring two firemen, officials say. Two residents reported seeing a canister, about 1 liter or 1 quart in size, smoldering along the shoreline of the lake near the Biltmore Lake club house and Lake Drive, said Bill McMannis, on-site manager for Biltmore Lake.

DOT releases new Emergency Response Guidebook

Detroit firefighter accused of collecting paychecks while in jail

Some Detroit firefighters come forward believing that one of their own is cheating the system. They say a firefighter collected paychecks and overtime, while sitting in jail. A Detroit firefighter is the subject of an internal investigation after concerns were raised about his work hours and the possibility of Steven Cooley may have been in two places at once.
