New Mexico fire chief charged with impersonating cop fired

After months of controversy, the Valencia County fire chief has been fired.Steven Gonzales is facing charges of impersonating an officer and false imprisonment after he pulled over a person for driving erratically in Los Lunas. Authorities say that as fire chief, Gonzales had no authority to pull people over.

Resident takes issue with hip hop video shot at New Jersey town's firehouse

A borough resident has made an official complaint to Hightstown's council about a hip hop video partially filmed at the borough's volunteer fire station that features its apparatus. The video is for a song called "IDK" by New Jersey performer Elite Motivated, and it was filmed and directed by Patrick Byas, an actor and director from Hightstown.

Washington fire district merger up to voters

After years of discussion and shared services, Clark County Fire District 2 might merge with Clark County Fire & Rescue. Residents of District 2 will decide whether to merge during a vote on Aug. 2. To pass, the vote will require a simple majority. District 2 covers a small portion of Clark County between Woodland and La Center.

Massachusetts firefighters face more than fire, battle daily cancer risk, injuries

Last October, longtime Somerville Firefighter Robert Quinn died suddenly at the age of 57 of a heart attack. Two months later, 48-year-old Somerville Fire Lieutenant Paul Sullivan died after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Today, two other Somerville firefighters are on leave, diagnosed with cancer, and over the past year, many others have missed time with other injuries.

Washington firefighter still fighting flames after 50 years

Washington State is preparing for wildfire season, but one man is prepping for his 50th and final season as a firefighter. Chicago firefighter dies nearly a month after hit-and-run

A 43-year-old Chicago firefighter died Tuesday, nearly a month after he was struck by a minivan in a hit-and-run crash in the North Side Rogers Park neighborhood. On June 12, Lorenzo Douglas was outside of his parked vehicle about 7:30 p.m. when a minivan going north in the 6500 block of North Ashland moved into the southbound lanes and hit him, his vehicle and two other parked vehicles, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Minnesota town in shock at death of fire chief in tractor accident

6 New Jersey firefighters hospitalized from warehouse chemical exposure

Six firefighters were hospitalized Tuesday after being exposed to a "chemical haze" emitted from a warehouse on Port Carteret Drive, officials said.
