Firefighters extinguished a roof fire at Nemak in Sheboygan Wednesday night. Fire crews responding to Nemak, 4243 Gateway Drive, just before 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday found flames coming from a vent duct on the roof. The vent stack contained aluminum dust, so water could not be used to extinguish it. Shane Westphal doesn’t have a problem with coloring books. He just had other ideas. Westphal, a firefighter and paramedic with the Stevens Point Fire Department, was named Public Educator of the Year last week by the Wisconsin State Fire Inspectors Association. Firefighters believe a fire that destroyed a large tree near the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Monday afternoon was intentionally set. About 30 residents had to be evacuated early Sunday morning because of a fire at an apartment complex.
