Madison police, firefighters dress up to raise money for local groups

VIDEO: Local firefighters 311 and the Madison Professional Police Officers Association are holding a black tie ball to raise money for the community. WKOW is a sponsor of the second annual Madison Area Police and Fire Charity Ball held Saturday night. 27 News anchor Amber Noggle was emcee. Firefighters say they like hosting the ball because it shows unity between the police and fire departments.

West Allis Police still looking for arsonist who injured small child

VIDEO: West Allis Police are asking for the public's help in tracking down an arsonist who injured a small child. Police say someone appeared to have intentionally set a fire to a first floor unit in the Lincoln Crest Apartments last weekend. Kuldeep Batanick and other neighbors said they heard a lot of noise coming from the unit, but did not know what was going on.

Westby-Christiana Fire Department wins grain bin rescue tube

The Westby-Christiana Fire Department won a grain bin rescue tube and hands-on rescue training as part of Nationwide’s 2016 Nominate Your Fire Department Contest held in conjunction with Grain Bin Safety Week held annually in February. Grain Bin Safety Week is an annual observance that occurs the third full week of February to promote grain bin safety on farms and commercial grain handling facilities.

Boulder Junction honors two former fire chiefs

During last week's Boulder Junction Town Board meeting, local firefighters Mykyl Hensley and John Titel were honored for their service and dedication to the fire department. "They have served for more years than I'm sure they want me to disclose here this evening," fire chief Matt Reuss said. "They have numerous achievements and accolades on their records and both served as chief as the department and EMT providers.

Merrill Fire Department unveils new duty shirts in honor of veterans

The Merrill Fire Department is honoring veterans and active military personnel by wearing a specially designed duty shirt. The MFD members are wearing these shirts in honor of the brave men and women who have and are selflessly defending our freedoms. The idea for the shirts came from crew members trying to find a creative way to show support for the new Northwoods Veterans Post soon to be constructed in Merrill.

Mount Horeb Fire Department seeks new building

VIDEO: The Mount Horeb Area Joint Fire Department and EMS are pushing for a referendum to get a new building that they say they desperately need. The department serves two villages and six townships totalling up to nearly 13,000 residents. The voters in those municipalities will have the chance to vote for a referendum on Election Day.

Firefighters extinguish Nemak roof fire in Sheboygan

Firefighters extinguished a roof fire at Nemak in Sheboygan Wednesday night. Fire crews responding to Nemak, 4243 Gateway Drive, just before 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday found flames coming from a vent duct on the roof. The vent stack contained aluminum dust, so water could not be used to extinguish it. Firefighters used a collection of portable CO2 and Dry Chemical extinguishers from their rigs and Nemak to extinguish the fire.

Beloit house fire caused by holiday lights

Firefighters were called at 11:24 p.m. to 2226 Jackson Street where they found a small fire on the outside the front of the home and burning its way up the side toward the roof. The homeowner told firefighters that he saw a flickering outside and when he went out he saw flames from the bottom of the home moving toward the roof.

South Shore firefighters battle blaze on Lathrop Avenue

A landmark home in the village sustained heavy damage in a fire Wednesday afternoon. The South Shore Fire Department was dispatched at about 1:50 p.m. to a report of smoke coming from the residence at 3128 Lathrop Ave. Within 10 to 15 minutes, South Shore Battalion Chief John Radewan requested assistance from neighboring departments.

Racine blaze causes roof to collapse into home

Firefighters battled a stubborn fire late Wednesday night in the upper floor of a two-story home at 1653 Edgewood Avenue. Fire crews were dispatched at 10 p.m. to a report of an active fire in the home, located between St. Patrick Street and Rapids Drive on the city's north side. There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Two men rescued from Beaver Dam Lake

Two men were uninjured after their boat capsized in front of the Fish Camp boat launch on the eastern shore of Beaver Dam Lake, Tuesday. According to Capt. Trace Frost of the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, at 1:10 p.m. officers responded to a call of a capsized boat with two people in the water. Fox Lake Fire Department and Beaver Dam police and fire departments responded to the scene.

Fire breaks out at Ashley's Bar-B-Que on Milwaukee's north side

VIDEO: Another blow for a restaurant on the city's north side. Smoke billowed from the roof of Ashley's Bar-B-Que just after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday. The restaurant is located at 15th and Center. It took 34 firefighters to tackle the flames. "We had heavy smoke coming from the exhaust venting system at Ashley's.

13-year-old killed in Oneida crash; responding firefighter also dies

VIDEO: A 13-year-old boy and a 65-year-old volunteer firefighter are dead after a crash in the Town of Oneida Monday night. The Outagamie Co. Sheriff's Office says the crash happened around 10 o’clock on Bain Road just west of Hwy. U in the Town of Oneida. The driver of a westbound SUV lost control and the vehicle rolled over and hit a power pole.

Stevens Point firefighter nabs statewide award

Shane Westphal doesn’t have a problem with coloring books. He just had other ideas. Westphal, a firefighter and paramedic with the Stevens Point Fire Department, was named Public Educator of the Year last week by the Wisconsin State Fire Inspectors Association. Westphal introduced technology to the fire department’s safety education program using apps developed by the National Fire Protection Agency.

Firefighters cut down burning tree near University of Wisconsin-Parkside

Firefighters believe a fire that destroyed a large tree near the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Monday afternoon was intentionally set. The fire, in the wooded area of Petrifying Springs Park near the Pike River, was reported at about 2:45 p.m. by two students who attempted to put out the fire. “We walked into the woods and some guy’s in the woods with a dog and accused us of starting the fire,” said Enrique Azuaje, 19.

Radio communications practiced for Washburn County emergency response

Washburn County Emergency Management coordinated an Emergency Communications regional training and exercise during the week of October 24-28 at the Spooner Fire Hall. The training focused on the development of technician-level communications in the region to better support the various public safety communication needs at an emergency response during significant incidents such as flooding and other natural or man-made disasters.

Milwaukee Landlord says Fire started during Eviction Hearing was Arson by Tenant

VIDEO: He was trying to evict his tenants. Now a Milwaukee landlord finds himself homeless. Monday afternoon a fire destroyed Dan Crowley's duplex on North 36th Street. He said he believes that the fire was started by his tenants who live on the other levels of his building. "This has a lot to do with a landlord tenant issue.

Manitowoc carbon monoxide incident sends multiple people to hospital

VIDEO: About one dozen patients were taken to a hospital following a carbon monoxide incident in Manitowoc. The Manitowoc Fire Chief says 12-16 patients were transported to the hospital. “This was a mass casualty incident for the city of Manitowoc. Meaning that our local resources were tasked and we had additional agencies from Two Rivers and Mishicot EMS that came to assist with this incident,” said Chief Todd Blaser.

Small fire evacuates Bellevue Apartment

VIDEO: No one was hurt after an early morning apartment fire. Bellevue firefighters were called to an apartment on Verlin Road early Monday morning for a kitchen fire. When they arrived, they say everyone in the building had evacuated on their own. Fire fighters said they saw flames on and around the stove top in one apartment.

Apartment fire in Denmark displaces 30 residents

About 30 residents had to be evacuated early Sunday morning because of a fire at an apartment complex. Denmark Fire Chief Dave Bielinski said the entire building in the 300 block of Danish Way was evacuated after crews responded shortly after 4 a.m. to a fire that started in the kitchen area of one of the apartment units.
