Fire chief says 30-foot flames engulfed De Pere garage

Towering flames engulfed a garage in De Pere early Monday morning. The garage is considered a loss, according to the De Pere Fire Department. At about 2:46 a.m., De Pere firefighters responded to an address on N. Adams Street off Ridgeway Boulevard and Webster Avenue. Crews arrived to find a two-stall detached garage in flames.

Kenosha firefighters put out fire in wall at downtown apartment

Kenosha firefighters responded to a report of a fire in a wall at a downtown apartment building Sunday morning. The fire was reported shortly before 10 a.m. at 609 58th St. by the woman who was inside the room, according to Battalion Chief Ken Schroeder of the Kenosha Fire Department. According to Schroeder, the person had been burning incense in the room and apparently fell asleep when she awoke to the fire.

Airboats used to rescue 2 men from ice slab on Geneva Lake

Two men were rescued from the middle of Geneva Lake on Sunday, March 1 after an ice slab broke off from the main ice. Fontana Fire & Rescue officials responded around 11:30 a.m. for a report of two people stuck on the ice. An assistant fire chief was on scene immediately after dispatch and gathered information from witnesses onshore and dispatchers as to the location of the men needing rescue.

Jen's Sweet Treats hosts fundraiser for fallen Milwaukee Firefighter Darrin 'Superman' Jones

A fundraiser was held Saturday, Feb. 29 at Jen’s Sweet Treats in Cudahy in honor of Darrin “Superman” Jones, the Milwaukee firefighter who passed away in his sleep on Feb. 1, just three months before he planned to retire. Jones’ passing was considered a line of duty death. “They put their lives on the line every time they, you know, come to work, and Superman was no different,” said Jennifer Clark, owner of Jen’s Sweet Treats.

Community bands together to help retired Bloomer fire chief

Brian Bleskacek was diagnosed with stage four inoperable urothelial cancer in November. On Saturday members of Bloomer came to the Pines Ballroom to honor Brian and all he has done for the community, as well as raise money for medical expenses. "It's pretty amazing to see all the community outpouring involvement whether it's donations or the people here who are spending money and having a good time,” says Brady Bleskacek.

Man dead following Town of Franklin house fire

The Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that a 71-year-old man is dead following a early morning house fire on Friday. Crews from multiple departments responded to the fire in the 1900 block of Wochos Road in Franklin shortly after 1 a.m. Chief Jeff Chalupny of the Tisch Mills Fire Department says upon arrival at the scene, firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames, putting crews on a defensive approach immediately.

Fire damages boiler building at SV Pallet in Wood County

Firefighters battled a fire Thursday afternoon that severely damaged a boiler building at SV Pallet facilities in Wood County. Fire crews responded to the blaze around 2:20 p.m. at SV Pallet on State 80 in the town of Richfield, according to Richfield Rural Fire Department. Crews arrived to find a wood-framed structure with metal siding that had flames and smoke coming from the roof.

Milwaukee Fire Department responds to residential fire near 83rd and Villard

The Milwaukee Fire Department is at the scene of a residential fire near 83rd and Villard on the city’s west side. FOX6 News crews captured a heavy fire department presence at that location just before 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27. There is visible damage to what appears to be a multi-home building. The Milwaukee Police Department confirmed that the two-alarm residential fire spread to two nearby buildings.

Fire damages mechanic shop in Milwaukee, cause under investigation

Firefighters on Wednesday night, Feb. 26 responded to the scene of a fire Romy Battery near 43rd and Lincoln in Milwaukee. The call came in shortly after 10 p.m. Upon arrival, the building was fully engulfed and additional fire units were summoned. The cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious — but is still under investigation.

Firefighters battle fire in riding stable in Town of Neenah

Crews battled a fire at an indoor riding stable in the Town of Neenah. It happened around 9:00 p.m. Wednesday on the 2900 block of Woodenshoe Road. Firefighters found smoke coming from the stable and found a tractor on fire. The owner of the building was using a fire extinguisher to attempt to control the fire before crews arrived.

Brewery employee at Molson Coors fatally shoots 5 in Milwaukee rampage, then kills self

In one of the worst shootings in Wisconsin history, five people were killed Wednesday by a gunman during a rampage on the Milwaukee campus of Molson Coors. The gunman died by suicide, bringing the total of known dead so far to six. Initial accounts from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel indicated at least seven had died, but that number has since been clarified.

Dad, 2 kids escape large Portage house fire

Oshkosh firefighters, police to face off in charity hockey, basketball games

Public servants will square off in two upcoming charity events, pitting law enforcement against firefighters in the name of raising money for good causes. Oshkosh firefighters and police officers will compete in a charity hockey game 3 p.m. Saturday at the Oshkosh Community YMCA, 3303 W. 20th Ave. Guns ‘N Hoses is an annual hockey game that pits the city's firefighters and police officers against each other in some friendly competition to raise money for a local charity.

"Beyond the Call:" De Pere first responders recognized for compassion, hard work

Several De Pere Police and firefighters were honored on Tuesday for going above and beyond the call at the 5th annual Outstanding Public Safety Member Recognition Day. Ilde Nielson, owner of Ogan Restaurant, will never forget April 24, 2019 as she watched the building go up in flames and collapse. She nominated Firefighter/EMT William Tews and Lieutenant Tom Hendricks, for their work during and after the fire.

Wausau fire officials look to purchase new engines

The Wausau Finance Committee agreed to purchase two new fire engines for the Wausau Fire Department during their meeting on Tuesday. According to the Wausau Fire Department, the current fleet of fire engines is near retirement and firefighters have run into issues operating them during emergencies.

Wheatland mulls next step in firehouse 'debacle'

Milwaukee: More firefighters die by suicide than on the job

Their jobs are among the most dangerous available, but more firefighters die by suicide than by the dangers of their jobs. It's a startling statistic Milwaukee firefighters are all too familiar with. Brent Jones, a 20 year veteran of the Milwaukee Fire Department, almost became part of that group several times while dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder.

After rabies scare, Wind Lake Fire Department still dealing with medical bills

The Wind Lake Volunteer Fire Company incurred a large expense for medical bills in 2018 when emergency responders encountered what they thought may have been a victim with rabies. Two and half years later, they are nearing a final decision on how to pay those bills relating to rabies vaccines. Five Wind Lake emergency medical technicians were treated with a preventative vaccine.

Milton Fire Department faces volunteer firefighter shortage

Milton Fire Department is in the midst of a “staffing crisis,” due to a lack of volunteer firefighters, according to Chief Ernest Rhodes. Oconto fire department installing free smoke detectors

If it’s been a decade since you put new smoke detectors in your home, it’s time to get them replaced. Fortunately, Oconto Fire and Rescue Department has some that local homeowners can not only get, but installed as well, for free. The department received 60 smoke alarms from the American Red Cross, which partners with local fire departments and agencies to provide the devices.
