Pleasant Prairie: Village Board approves $800,000 emergency radio communications upgrade

The Village Board approved a $800,000 proposal to upgrade an aging emergency police and fire radio system in an effort to enable better communication coverage. On Monday, the board voted unanimously approving a contract with Baycom Inc., which upgrade the system to simulcast very high frequency radio signals from four sites: Roger Prange Center, police headquarters, on Green Bay Road; the Sheridan Road tower; Doubletree Inn; and a water tower near Premium Outlets Currently, the system relies on a signal transmission from a singular site at the Prange Center.

Wildland fire contained at Memorial Park Sunday

A wildland fire at Memorial Park was brought under control on Sunday afternoon by the Red Wing Fire Department and other agencies. The department sent a news release Sunday evening stating, the agencies responded within six minutes to the fire and extinguished it within an hour. Approximately five acres of wildland burned as a result.

Sheboygan family displaced after fire

Residents of a home were displaced after a fire early Sunday morning. The Sheboygan Fire Department received a report of a structure fire around 4:30 a.m. in the 3300 block of North 13th Street. Firefighters found heavy fire coming from the front porch when they arrived. They extinguished the fire outside before going into the building, according to the fire department.

Sound on! Madison firefighters share important message through popular song

VIDEO: The Madison Fire Dept. is turning to music to encourage proper hygiene. They posted a clip on social media showing members of the dept. having fun and grooving to a popular Lizzo song while getting those hands clean. They also included a link to some important tips about stopping the spread of COVID-19.

How cities like Janesville are operating during COVID-19 while still providing necessary services

The City of Janesville is prepared to operate under an emergency operations plan, city leaders say. This week, city leaders practiced running an emergency operations center – a room in which essential city staff can make decisions on how to allocate public resources during a crisis. “A lot of our everyday regular stuff gets pushed to the side if it’s not essential”, said Janesville’s Management Information Specialist Molly Nolte.

Weinbrenner Shoe Co. employees and Merrill firefighters honored for saving man's life

Members of the Merrill community are applauding some fast acting employees at the Weinbrenner Shoe Company. After one of their coworkers went into cardiac arrest this past Tuesday, a few brave men and women stepped up to save his life. In a ceremony on the Weinbrenner factory floor Friday, Cory Eisner and several of her teammates were honored for their quick thinking.

Gas leak forces evacuation of Fontana Elementary School

Fontana Elementary School was evacuated and classes were canceled today after a natural gas leak caused by two faulty boilers in the building. The leak was first detected at about 8:15 a.m. by custodian Scott Linhart shortly after students had filled the school, which serves about 200 children in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.

Merrill Fire Department training helps Weinbrenner Shoe Company employees save coworker's life

A Merrill man is expected to make a full recovery after his coworkers performed the first aid that saved his life. Local firefighters who responded to the incident Tuesday and provided the first aid training used that day have now been recognized for their efforts. On March 10, an employee at Weinbrenner Shoe Company went into "full cardiac arrest" according to Safety Director Robert Watry.

Fire Departments prepare for COVID-19 in Stateline Area

Stateline Area fire departments are prepared for outbreaks of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Rock County in Wisconsin and Winnebago County in Illinois. No confirmed cases have been reported in either county as of Thursday afternoon. The Beloit Fire Department is one of multiple Rock County agencies coordinating a response plan with the Rock County Health Department in the event of any outbreak.

Madison Fire Department prepares to save lives amid coronavirus outbreak

As people prepare for coronavirus, emergency responders are working to be two steps ahead. Madison Fire Department’s assistant chief Che Stedman says that in one day the department may have eight ambulances with 16 paramedics. Green Bay man convicted of starting porch fire, lighting second during investigation

A Green Bay man has been found guilty of two counts of arson in federal court. According to the U.S. Attorney of the Eastern District of Wisconsin, 57-year-old William Julius was found guilty by a jury of setting fire to a porch in the 300 block of South Madison Street in Green Bay on August 20, 2017.

Riverside Fire District fully staffed for first time since merger

For the first time since the 2017 merger between the Rothschild and Schofield fire departments, the combined Riverside Fire District is at full staff. "We've been trying to find the right candidates for our job," Riverside Fire District Lt. Dylan Green said. "Obviously, it's not a job that (just) anybody can do, so it's more or less finding someone that's willing to be part of the team, that's willing to help people, that's willing to do the right thing when nobody is watching.

Southeastern Wisconsin Counties Look For Efficiencies By Sharing Services

Jefferson County in southern Wisconsin is pursuing options for sharing government resources among its municipalities, both to shore up expenses as budgets remain tight and take advantage of an evaporating labor pool for highly skilled workers. Green Bay apartment fire leaves one without home

One person is without a home after a kitchen fire in an apartment in Green Bay’s Monroe Plaza. Green Bay Metro Fire says they were dispatched to the 400 block of North Monroe around 3:20 a.m. Wednesday morning for a smoke alarm activation. Upon arrival, Green Bay Metro Fire crews found a fire in a single apartment.

Firefighters respond to box-level residential fire in village of Windsor

Firefighters are responding to a residential fire in the village of Windsor on Tuesday night. Dane County dispatch said it received a call at 6:55 p.m. for a report of a structure fire on the 3400 block of Heatherstone Ridge. Officials said a box-level alarm has been issued, meaning multiple agencies have been sent to the scene.

Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue delivers Dominos pizza on Firetruck Day

The Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue will be using their firetrucks to deliver Dominos pizzas to customers to celebrate “Firetruck Day” on March 10. According to Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue, they have partnered with the local Dominos to deliver pizzas to nine lucky customers on Wednesday between 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Part-time volunteer first responders need coverage, too: Legislation en route to provide PTSD compensation

Legislation that would give full-time first responders compensation for post traumatic stress disorder diagnosis is gaining momentum in the Senate and Assembly, but coauthor state Sen. Patty Schachtner said she hopes it won’t stop there. Senate Bill 511 and companion Assembly Bill 569, both backed with bipartisan support, are good places to start, according to the Somerset Democrat; however, they leave a large demographic out of the mix.

Valley Transit GM says no injuries reported in Appleton-area bus fire

The Appleton Fire Department is investigating a fire on a Valley Transit Bus. Firefighters say the fire occurred on South Schaefer Street, south of Calumet Street, Tuesday. According to the Valley Transit route map, the area the fire occurred is serviced by the Route 8 Telulah line. Valley Transit Center General Manager, Ron McDonald, reports no one was injured in the fire and bus routes have not been significantly impacted.
