Gas leak leads to explosion near Loras College in Iowa, one firefighter hurt

An explosion related to an earlier reported gas leak in Dubuque was the source of a large fire on Monday evening along Loras Boulevard. Dubuque Fire Department Chief Rick Steines said that a house was destroyed in the explosion, but nobody who lives there was injured. One firefighter was hurt, though the extent of their injury was not released.

New Jersey firefighters sue after 65 possibly exposed to COVID-19, saying city showed ‘blatant disregard’ for their health

The Atlantic City firefighters union, saying the city has shown “blatant disregard” for the health and safety of its members, has sued the city and state after six firefighters tested positive last week for the coronavirus, potentially exposing 65 firefighters to the pandemic. The union’s complaint, filed Friday in Superior Court, alleges that the department’s policy of directing firefighters to return to work after they were exposed to infected coworkers, but tested negative themselves for COVID-19, risks spreading the coronavirus among firefighters, their families and the public.

Twenty-one states are reporting increased COVID-19 cases as experts warn of a fall surge

Almost half the US is reporting increased numbers of new COVID-19 cases as health experts warn of a potential coronavirus surge in the fall and winter. As of Sunday, the number of new coronavirus cases has increased by at least 10% or more compared to the week before in 21 states, most of them in the West, according to a CNN analysis of data from Johns Hopkins University.

North Carolina firefighters injured after truck overturns

Tunnel to Towers race canceled in New York, but some walk through tunnel on Sunday

Houston study: More contagious coronavirus strain now dominates

Fire destroys Texas storage facility

Google Maps Will Now Display Coronavirus Outbreaks And Cases

How Spokane’s ‘Buffalo Soldiers’ saved Idaho town from historic 1910 blaze

Wildfires are nothing new in the Northwest, and the “Big Burn of 1910” in Idaho and Montana is still remembered as one of the worst disasters in the region’s history. Pennsylvania county 911 to reduce nonemergency services to first responders

Ongoing staffing shortages at the York County 911 Center have caused the center's director to reduce the frequency and kinds of nonemergency services that dispatchers have been providing to police, fire and EMS agencies. The York Dispatch has obtained a copy of a two-page letter dated Sept. 18 that was sent to all York County police chiefs, fire chiefs and EMS officials by 911 Director Matthew Hobson.

House Passes Legislation to Support Fire & EMS Mental Wellness

Yesterday evening, the U.S. House of Representatives passed legislation to provide critical resources to local fire and EMS personnel. The Helping Emergency Responders Overcome (HERO) Act (H.R. 1646) will develop peer mental health training programs and resources to educate mental health professionals about active and retired firefighters' needs.
