No one hurt after duplex fire in Eau Claire

No one was hurt after a fire overnight in a duplex in Eau Claire. The Eau Claire Fire Department said in a release that eight people in the building, including seven in the side of the duplex that caught on fire, were safely evacuated when crews arrived at 2:31 a.m. Monday to reports of a structure fire on Christopher Drive on Eau Claire’s west side.

One man injured in fire in Merrill house fire

One man was injured Sunday morning after a house fire in Lincoln County. Fire crews responded around 8:30 a.m. to a structure fire on County K in the town of Merrill, according to the Merrill Fire Department. Fire department officials said a man who lived in the home was able to get out before firefighters arrived, and he was taken to Aspirus Merrill Hospital for injuries.

Hartford Fire and Rescue operations reviewed

An evaluation of Hartford Fire and Rescue showed that the department is currently faring better than many fire departments are with national shortages in fire and emergency medical service personnel, but that is not likely to last forever. The Common Council heard a presentation this week from Dan Williams from Strategic Management & Consulting.

Marshfield Fire Chief retires after more than 25 years

Marshfield Fire Chief Scott Owen celebrated his last day on the job on Friday. Chief Owen has been at the Marshfield Fire Station for over 25 years. Owen said it's the people at the station who have made the job what it is. He said that while he is looking forward to retirement, it is bittersweet to say goodbye to his second family.

Sun Prairie structure sustains significant damage in fire started by rags

A commercial structure in Sun Prairie caused $15,000 worth of damage Saturday morning. Sun Prairie Fire & Rescue said the fire started after discarded rags were left near flammable materials. The fire happened on the 2000 block of Terra Court. A delivery service saw smoke inside the building and called Dane County Public Safety Communications around 9:30 a.

Mequon, Thiensville approve creating group to study fire department merger

Elected officials in both Mequon and Thiensville this week approved creating a joint working group to explore consolidating the fire departments of each community. The Mequon Common Council Tuesday approved it unanimously, but without comment. The Thiensville Village Board Monday did the same, after hearing from about a dozen people during an open house.

Green Bay firefighters surprise children's hospital patients at their windows

VIDEO/PHOTOS: An effort to make the holiday season brighter for children's hospital patients is reaching new heights. Members of the Green Bay Fire Department delivered gifts collected by members of the Central Church in Green Bay to patients at St. Vincent Children's Hospital Thursday. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, firefighters could not go inside and visit with the children but they were able to bring a special surprise to their windows.

Fire injures resident, kills cats in Town of Montrose

One person was hurt and a number of cats killed in a fire in the town of Montrose Thursday night. Firefighters from a number of departments were called to the multi-occupancy building in the 6700 block of Henry Road around 8:50 p.m. All residents were able to evacuate. One person was transported to the hospital with minor burns and smoke inhalation.

Flags fly at half-staff in honor of Milwaukee firefighter who died from brain cancer

U.S. and Wisconsin flags in the state will fly at half-staff Friday in honor of a Milwaukee firefighter who died of cancer over the weekend. Batallion Chief Sean Slowey, 68, died Saturday after battling brain cancer related to his service, according to Gov. Tony Evers’ executive order lowering flags.

Madison fire crews help oxygen-dependent patients after power outages cause complications

Firefighters were dispatched to Madison’s south side Wednesday night after a fallen tree cut power to area residents, two of whom needed help with their oxygen supplies. According to a Madison Fire Department incident report, crews responded to the 900 block of Moorland Road around 9:45 p.m. after winds knocked over a large tree in the area, prompting power outages.

La Crosse man arrested for starting home on fire, killing a dog and pointing gun at victim

A dead dog, another had to be resuscitated, a battery victim who had a gun pointed at them and a house intentionally set on fire. Firefighters battle flames and wind at Monroe County blaze that destroyed home

Fire destroyed a Monroe County home early Thursday morning. The call went out to the home on Mascot Avenue, just north of Cashton, around 1:30 a.m. When Cashton fire crews arrived, they found flames shooting out of the roof. “There was fire coming out of the attic, and quite noticeably on two sides, so we had to start attacking attic windows with water,” Cashton Fire Chief Al Erickson said.

Western Lakes Fire District swoops in for the save of Trumpeter Swan stuck on the ice

VIDEO: A Trumpeter Swan was stuck on a frozen lake in southern Wisconsin, and local water rescue personnel were able to save it. According to the Western Lakes Fire District, a resident contacted the authorities as well as Wildlife in Need about a swan that appeared to be stuck on the ice and unable to fly.

Wausau Fire Department calls for more boots on the ground

Wausau Fire Department proposed a plan to add 12 new firefighters by 2024. They presented the plan to the City's Human Resources Committee Monday night where it was approved. Wausau Fire Chief, Bob Barteck said the department has not changed its employee requirements since 1970 and needs a major update.

Ochsner Park enclosure burns down, all animals safe

All the animals at Ochsner Park Zoo are safe and were not hurt in a Tuesday morning fire that destroyed the building where their donkeys, llamas, and wolves are housed, zoo staff confirmed. In a post on Facebook, officials credited firefighters’ efforts in helping protect the animals and keep them safe as well as for preventing the fire from spreading to other buildings.

Wausau families 'Shop with a Hero' for Christmas cheer

Woman, dog die in Baraboo duplex fire

A woman died in an overnight duplex fire in Baraboo, according to Baraboo Police Captain Rob Sinden. The victim is not being identified at this time. Authorities also recovered a deceased dog. Sinden said due to extensive damage and structural concerns, The City of Madison Heavy Urban Rescue Team spent two hours on structural support mechanisms to allow investigators to gain entry into the burned duplex.

Current, former chiefs to weigh in on search for Madison Fire Department's next leader

Duplex fire in Baraboo causes ‘severe structural damage’

Baraboo officials are investigating a late night fire at a duplex that fully engulfed half of the building in flames. The Baraboo Police Dept. says officials responded to the fire at the Southeast corner of 4th and Barker streets in the City of Baraboo around 10:33 p.m. Sunday night. When officers arrived, they were able to evacuate a man, woman and their pet cat from one area of the duplex.
