Germantown Fire Departments are Experiencing a Shortage of Volunteers

Some local fire departments are finding themselves in a tough situation. Many of the smaller departments are volunteer run and right now there is a shortage of volunteers. The fire department in Germantown said they have been facing the issue for several years as the city continues to grow. This year alone they have already responded to about 250 more calls than they did last year.

Milwaukee: Surveillance photo released in Sherman Park liquor store looting, arson

Dane County home slated to be used for controlled burn goes up in flames beforehand

A large fire in the Town of Westport is still burning as of 9:30 a.m., but firefighters say the house was slated to be used for a controlled burn anyway. The house at 5919 Oncken Road was abandoned, according to the Middleton Fire Department. They told our affiliate in Madison, WKOW, they were going to use it for controlled burn training soon.

No injuries in Kiel hardware store fire

VIDEO: No one was injured in a Monday morning fire at Lulloff True Value Hardware store in Kiel. A gasoline tank truck driver who was unloading gas at the BP station across the street from the store reported seeing smoke and flames visible out the front door of the hardware store at 4:57 a.m., Kiel Fire and Rescue Lt.

Fire near Gov. Nelson State Park under investigation

PHOTO: A house fire near Governor Nelson State Park is under investigation. Firefighters were called at 7:20 a.m. to 5919 Oncken Road in the town of Westport on a report of a house fire. Firefighters told News 3 that the house is abandoned and nobody was in the building. The fire was contained to the house and did not spread to other buildings on the property.

Fire under investigation at abandoned Green Bay restaurant

VIDEO: Fire crews responded to an active fire around 9pm Sunday night at the closed Ten-O-One restaurant, located on Main street in Green Bay. According to the Green Bay fire department, the business had been closed for about a month, and the building had been vacant. The fire broke out in one of the apartments on the second floor, and when Green Bay firefighters arrived, they found a young person who had some smoke injuries.

Sun Prairie alders OK fire cost allocation study

The City of Sun Prairie has contracted with a consulting firm to study funding allocation for the Sun Prairie Fire Department, thanks to action taken Aug. 16 by the city council’s Committee of the Whole. A portion of the costs for the $5,132, two-month study will be paid for by the towns of Bristol and Sun Prairie that receive fire service from SPFD.

Update: Toddler injured in Lake Holcombe fire dies

VIDEO: The 2-year-old injured in an apartment fire in Lake Holcombe passed away Saturday night. The Chippewa County Sheriff's Department identified the boy as Anthony N. Harp, son of Sean N. Harp and Amber J. Liebe. Liebe told officials Anthony died at the hospital in Minnesota. Harp, Liebe and their 3-year-old son were able to escape the fire, but the parents were not able to get Anthony out of the building.

Deadly Fire kills one in Sheboygan, leaving more than 40 people without a home

VIDEO: Fire fighters responded to the Embers apartment complex early Sunday morning at 4:18 to a blaze on South Business Drive in Sheboygan, a fire that killed one adult, no further details have been released. It took fire fighters around thirty minutes to get the fire under control, although they battled spot fires well into Sunday morning.

Early Morning Sheboygan Fire Under Investigation

VIDEO: Sheboygan fire firefighters are on the scene of an early morning fire. Crews were dispatched to the area of 8th and Oakland around 1:20 Friday morning for a report of multiple buildings on fire. A shed in the alleyway could be seen fully engulfed in flames, and firefighters were on scene for about 2 hours knocking the fire down, and then breaking through the roof to put out some hot spots inside the building.

Two-year-old injured in Lake Holcombe fire

A 2-year-old child was airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital after suffering injuries in a fire Thursday morning in the town of Lake Holcombe. The child, whose identity has not been released, was pulled from a burning apartment by Cornell firefighters. No condition report is available. According to the Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office, a fire in a second-story apartment at 27475 262nd Ave.

Bell sworn in as new Eau Claire Fire Chief

VIDEO: The City of Eau Claire is welcoming its new fire chief and he is no stranger to the city. Chris Bell took the oath Thursday at a small ceremony at fire station 2. Bell was joined by his wife and three kids who helped the new fire chief put on his new badge and hardware. Bell is a 19-year veteran of the fire department.

One person hospitalized after Eau Claire house fire

VIDEO: One person is in the hospital after a fire broke out inside an Eau Claire house early Thursday morning. Crews were called to the scene at 2222 Gooder Street just before 1 a.m. When they arrived, flames were visible from the back of the house, along with heavy smoke. One person is being treated for smoke inhalation.

Two homes damaged following early morning fire in Milwaukee

Fire Departments Across Wisconsin Searching for Volunteer Firefighters

AUDIO: America needs firefighters, especially the ones willing to volunteer. And Wisconsin is no exception. Some communities here have long relied on volunteer fire fighters for financial reasons, but are now falling short. A legislative council study committee has formed to address the problem. Milwaukee property damage from unrest could reach millions

The latest on violence in Milwaukee following the shooting of a black man by a police officer (all times local): 11 a.m. Federal officials say the cost of damage to eight businesses that were burned during violence in a north side Milwaukee neighborhood could exceed several million dollars. A team of special agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is investigating the fires that destroyed or damaged a BP gas station, an auto parts store, a bank, a beauty supply shop, a grocery store and three liquor stores on Saturday and Sunday.

2 injured by fallen tree on Capitol Square in Madison

A falling tree struck and injured two people Tuesday evening on the Capitol Square, according to a release from the Madison Fire Department. Firefighters were called to Carroll Street at West Washington Avenue at 6:28 p.m. Witnessed said two men were walking in the area, when the tree suddenly snapped and fell on them.

Fire destroys business in Dale

VIDEO: A family owned business is destroyed this morning after a fire in Outagamie county. The fire broke out around 2:30 A.M. at Valley Snowmobile & Powersports in the town of Dale. When firefighters arrived the building was fully engulfed and the roof caved in. The house nearby was untouched and no one was injured.

Over 50 cats removed from home in Monroe

VIDEO: Monroe police and fire officials removed over 50 cats from a home in Monroe Monday. Police officials say they were called about the home last week with complaints of an odor coming from the home on the 1100 block of 19th Street. After investigating, officials found the smell came from an excessive amount of cats being kept in the home.

Kansasville Fire buys first new ambulance

With patient transport times to area hospitals taking anywhere from 20 to 25 minutes, having a reliable ambulance is crucial for the Kansasville Fire and Rescue Department. And for the first time since it began providing ambulance service in 2007, the department is in the training process so it can utilize its first new ambulance.
