Some local fire departments are finding themselves in a tough situation. Many of the smaller departments are volunteer run and right now there is a shortage of volunteers. The fire department in Germantown said they have been facing the issue for several years as the city continues to grow. A large fire in the Town of Westport is still burning as of 9:30 a.m., but firefighters say the house was slated to be used for a controlled burn anyway. The City of Sun Prairie has contracted with a consulting firm to study funding allocation for the Sun Prairie Fire Department, thanks to action taken Aug. 16 by the city council’s Committee of the Whole. VIDEO: The 2-year-old injured in an apartment fire in Lake Holcombe passed away Saturday night. The Chippewa County Sheriff's Department identified the boy as Anthony N. Harp, son of Sean N. Harp and Amber J. Liebe. Liebe told officials Anthony died at the hospital in Minnesota. A 2-year-old child was airlifted to a Twin Cities hospital after suffering injuries in a fire Thursday morning in the town of Lake Holcombe. The child, whose identity has not been released, was pulled from a burning apartment by Cornell firefighters. No condition report is available.
