Northern Door Fire Departments Prepare For the Worst With Recent Trainings

With the help of community partners, Northern Door fire departments are preparing for the worst when it comes to their training. On Saturday, members of the Sister Bay/Liberty Grove, Gibraltar, Ephraim, and Egg Harbor Fire Departments worked on their school bus and vehicle extrication skills thanks to Five Star Training out of Idaho.

Three rescued from La Crosse duplex fire

Three people were rescued Friday morning from a fire in a duplex in La Crosse. The La Crosse Fire Department received a call at 7:07 a.m. about a fire at 1714 Ferry St. Heavy smoke was coming from the second floor of the duplex and three people were at the windows when firefighters arrived. The fire department used a ladder to get them all to safety and extinguished fire quickly.

Eau Claire blaze highlights sadness of house fire’s emotional loss

Lynn Fraser watched Thursday as Eau Claire firefighters extinguished a blaze that engulfed the home of her employee, Nou Thao. “She has worked so hard to better herself and was doing so well,” said Fraser, owner of Lynn’s Chatterbox Cafe, where Thao is the manager. Fraser said she expects to do something to help Thao, who lost not only her home but her vehicle and other personal belongings in the fire.

Tanning bed causes fire in Racine home

The Racine Fire Department responded to the report late Thursday night of a “tanning bed on fire” at a residence at 16th and Russet Streets. The owner of the home reported the fire around 10:30 PM and said the three occupants tried to put the fire out themselves but could not. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire quickly.

Black River Falls Fire Department rolls out new truck

The Black River Falls Fire Department received a new fire truck Thursday. According to Fire Chief Steve Schreiber the new truck will replace the 1993 freightliner. He says it cost $489,000 and the department was able to raise $198,000 through fundraisers and grants. Schreiber says the rest of the money came from taxpayers, the Rural Fire Department, and EMS.

“Create a bigger awareness:” Milwaukee firefighters travel the city, teach CPR to students

PHOTO: CPR is a life-saving technique -- but you may be surprised by how many people don't actually know how to perform it. That's why every year, members of the Milwaukee Fire Department travel the city, teaching CPR to students. In 2018, a new state law goes into effect, requiring Wisconsin students to have CPR training.

Altoona one step closer to hiring full-time fire chief

The city of Altoona is another step closer to hiring its first full-time fire chief. On Wednesday, the Altoona Police and Fire Commission interviewed two candidates for the position. A third candidate backed out before Wednesday’s interviews. City Administrator Mike Golat says the commission selected James Cleveland of New Mexico for the chief position.

Plans moving forward for new Osseo fire station

After voters in Osseo approved a referendum Tuesday night for a new fire station, plans to build the new facility are getting underway. Osseo Fire Chief Nels Gunderson says Olympic Construction was awarded the contract for the 2.5 million dollar project. He says construction is expected to begin in about 30 days, and will done by the end of the year.

Police probe fire in Racine home

Police and fire investigators are trying to determine what caused a fire to break out in a home at 2214 Washington Ave. Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters were called to the scene at 3:30 p.m. after a resident on the second floor reported the carpet was on fire. When crews arrived a piece of burned carpet was lying outside the residence, already extinguished.

Pedestrian critically injured after River Falls highway crash

PHOTO: A River Falls man remained in critical condition Tuesday after being struck by a semi-trailer one day earlier on Highway 35. River Falls Deputy Police Chief Jon Aubart said the 62-year-old man was being treated at Regions Hospital in St. Paul after sustaining life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Town holds groundbreaking ceremony for new Minocqua fire station

VIDEO: Minocqua will soon see a new home base for its fire department. The Minocqua fire chief, town board members, and architects all took part in breaking ground for the new station. The new building will be next to the Minocqua Area Chamber of Commerce on Highway 51. Fire Chief Andy Petrowski says this new station will not only give the department the space it needs but will help its response time as well.

Bill looks to reduce strain on emergency medical providers’ resources

In hopes to reduce medical and emergency services’ costs, Wisconsin lawmakers introduced a bipartisan bill that would allow the community to provide emergency care. Rep. Amy Loudenbeck, R-Clinton, one of the main sponsors of the legislation, introduced the bill March 17. The bill would set up state expectations for non-emergency health care and was created in collaboration with local emergency service organizations like Professional Firemen of Wisconsin, Loudenbeck said.

Tall order: Milwaukee County firefighters get high-rise training

New Holstein: Firefighters battle real flames and smoke in hands-on training

VIDEO: It was a rare opportunity for firefighters, as departments from across Wisconsin, Michigan and Illinois, came together for hands-on training. Person rescued from downtown Madison elevator

One person was rescued from a downtown elevator by Madison firefighters after the elevator malfunctioned, according to a release from the Madison Fire Department. Firefighters were called at 8:20 a.m. Friday to the YWCA on East Mifflin Street when an elevator became stuck on the 6th floor. A firefighter went up to the 7th floor and opened the lobby doors there.

Gardner trailer home loss after fire

The Brussels-Union-Gardner Fire Department responded to a trailer home fire in Gardner Sunday afternoon. The call of a trailer home engulfed in flames at 8919 County CC came in around noon, said BUG Fire Chief Curt Vandertie. The fire department also received a call about the trailer’s propane tank being on fire.

Racine investigators probe cause of house fire

Fire investigators are trying to figure out what caused an early- morning house fire Sunday at 2408 Carmel Ave. According to a press release issued by the Racine Fire Department, neighbors heard a noise, then saw an orange glow at the home at about 12:40 a.m. when the call for help was made. The blaze coming from the first-floor bedroom was quickly put out by responding firefighters but not before $40,000 in damage was done to the home.

Fire Destroys Chippewa County Home

VIDEO: A home and attached garage are destroyed after a fire in Chippewa county. It happened in the 15- thousand block of state highway 27. According to chief Dennis Klass with the Cornell area fire department. The call came in from a passerby just after 12:30 this morning. Klass says the buildings had a steel roof, which made it hard to fight the fire because water couldn't get in.
