Lawsuits continue after 2013 Germann Road fire

Years after a fire burned 8,100 acres in Douglas and Bayfield counties, lawsuits continue between insurers as to who will cover the losses. The District III Court of Appeals ruled last week that a $2 million general liability policy Secura Mutual Insurance issued to a logging company at the center of the 2013 Germann Road fire would apply if the logger is found liable for the fire-related damages.

North Shore Fire: Fire breaks out at building that is home to many elderly and disabled residents

North Shore Fire and Rescue responded to the Parkside Commons Apartments, 1400 W. Custer Ave., for a report of a fire on the second floor of the building. The first arriving fire company reported an active evacuation in progress with residents reporting moderate smoke conditions on the second floor. Crews located a fire in an apartment on the second floor.

Medical examiner called out to scene of fire near 84th and Lisbon in Milwaukee

Firefighters were called out to the area of 84th and Lisbon around 7:30 a.m. Initial reports indicate the victim is an adult male. Wisconsin DNR Forestry Wildland Firefighters train for potential wildfires in Wisconsin

Mount Pleasant man arrested after reportedly kicking firefighter

A Mount Pleasant man has been arrested after reportedly kicking a firefighter in the stomach. Andrew W. Nielsen, 22, of the 4300 block of Danbury Lane, is charged with a felony count of battery to a firefighter, two counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct and a misdemeanor charge of resisting an officer.

Wausau police and fire departments search for new employees

VIDEO: The Wausau police and fire departments are seeing a high number of employees retiring; Now they have to fill those positions. Since 2016 the police department has added 19 new members to the team. The fire department is anticipating on filling at least four positions next year. "We've noticed baby boomers and some of the experience veterans firefighters reaching retirement age," Deputy Chief Josh Klug said.

Mauston fire department offering free smoke detectors

Mauston fire chief Kim Hale wants residents to know that there are 29 smoke detectors available for nearby residents in need. The detector will be installed by members of the Mauston fire department, free of charge. “These are provided through the American Red Cross and Wisconsin SAFE,” Chief Hale said.

Firefighters find pet dog deceased after Green Bay house fire

Battalion Chief Dave Kolz with the Green Bay Metro Fire Department says a house fire claimed the life of a pet dog on Tuesday. Units were dispatched to the fire on the 1100 block of Reber Street just after 11:00AM. There, they found the home full of smoke and an active fire in the front living room of the residence.

La Crosse Fire Department welcomes four new firefighters

VIDEO: The La Crosse Fire Department added four new firefighters to its force Tuesday night during a pinning ceremony. New Equipment for Oshkosh Fire

Oshkosh firefighters have some new equipment. A $7,000 grant has allowed the department to purchase new life vests for ice and water rescues. Oshkosh Fire's John Holland says they've wanted the vests for the last 20 years. "Obviously, being Oshkosh, we are surrounded by water, so it's very important that we have the right equipment.

Kenosha County: Fire destroys unoccupied school buses

Firefighters are investigating the cause of an early morning fire Monday that destroyed three school buses and caused an estimated $120,000 in damages. Salem Lakes Fire Chief Mike Slover said firefighters were called to the blaze at 5:55 a.m. The fire started in a bus that had recently been repaired and quickly spread to two other buses in the maintenance area of Dousman Transport Co.

Several people rescued from Racine house fire on Grand Avenue

Three people, one of them a 3-year-old girl, had to be rescued Saturday afternoon from a second-floor balcony after a fire broke out at a multi-family dwelling at 17th Street and Grand Avenue as tenants were repairing the gas tank on a car. A 50-year-old man suffered what fire officials described as “noncritical burns” in the incident.

Old and young celebrate 150 years of fire service in Beaver Dam

The Beaver Dam Fire Station was full of activity Saturday morning with staff dashing in and out of fire trucks, children operating fire hoses and retired firefighters trading old stories in the garage. “It’s good to see the retired guys show up,” Beaver Dam Fire Chief Alan Mannel said. Hay fire destroys barn in Shawano County

A hay barn in Shawano County is a total loss after a fire early Sunday morning. Fire Chief Dan Ladwig from the Bowler Fire Department said firefighters were on scene for more than 12 hours at Matsche Farms in the Town of Almon. Multiple fire departments provided mutual aid. Cattle were in a nearby barn just feet away, but did not suffer any injuries.

Chippewa Valley Technical College training site receives updates to prepare firefighters

Firefighters from 15 departments throughout west-central Wisconsin agreed on the toughest part of their upcoming state certification test: The ladder challenge was not going to be easy. At a new training facility on the west campus of Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, firefighters set a tall ladder reaching three stories up, then climbed it while carrying another ladder on their backs.

Spring Green Volunteer Fire Department is staffed by generations of families
