Update: Armenia firefighter and first responder volunteer to donate organs after ATV crash in Wood County

An Armenia firefighter and first responder volunteer is on life support as a result of severe injuries sustained in a Wood County ATV crash. Josh Doherty, 27, of Nekoosa was ejected from his ATV in a crash Sept. 22. Doherty, an organ donor, will remain on life support while waiting for the recipients of his organs to be ready.

Car crashes into Kaukauna senior living apartments

A driver crashed a car into a senior apartment complex in Kaukauna Thursday morning, At about 6:05 a.m., police and firefighters were called to a crash at Canal Place Senior Apartments, 137 E Wisconsin Av. Emergency responders found the car well inside the apartment unit and the driver trapped. "When we arrived on scene we noticed that a Ford Taurus had driven about 20 feet inside an apartment building and the patient was still trapped and injured in the car.

Waukesha police respond to scene of deadly fire

Waukesha police have confirmed one person has died following a house fire. Firefighters were called to the home located at 619 S. University Drive around 5:05 Thursday a.m. Advertisement The fire is believed to have started in a back bedroom. The medical examiner and police are still on the scene.

Neighbors & smoke detectors alert De Pere couple to house fire

A De Pere couple escapes a house fire early Thursday morning. De Pere Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Eric Johnson spoke with Action 2 News on the scene. He says neighbors spotted the fire at the house on the corner Talbot Avenue and Ridgeway Boulevard just before 1:00 a.m. The neighbors pounding on the door and the home's ringing smoke detectors alerted the couple in the home and they got out safely before fire crews arrived.

De Pere Fire Chief looks to rural firefighting method to keep historic district safe

After fighting the massive fire on Broadway April 24, the De Pere Fire Chief is looking to install a firefighting tool which rural communities have been using for years. Fire Chief Matzke says firefighters lost control of the blaze until rural fire crews assisting in the effort started drawing water from the Fox River for much need ammunition “We pumped over 8,000 gallons a minute out of the river that night,” Fire Chief Matzke told Local 5.

Green Bay firefighter attacked by person walking on street, fire department says

A person is accused of attacking a firefighter Wednesday morning, according to a media release from Green Bay Metro Fire Department. At around 10:40 a.m., the release said a Green Bay Metro Fire Department Lieutenant saw a person walking in the intersection of Broadway and Dousman streets. Out of concern for his safety, the Lieutenant approached the person and tried to convince him to move to the sidewalk.

Update: Fire that killed 3 in Fond du Lac group home likely caused by cigarette

Authorities say a fire that killed three residents of a Wisconsin group home was likely accidental and caused by smoking materials that were improperly discarded. The Fond du Lac Fire Department released the preliminary findings of its fire investigation on Tuesday. Three people died in last Thursday's fire at a home for intellectually disabled people in the eastern Wisconsin city of Fond du Lac.

Puppy training to be child service dog visits Madison fire station

Madison firefighters at Station 5 were paid a special visit by a furry friend named Buddy, who is training as a service dog to help children in need. The Madison Fire Department posted to Twitter saying that “it was time for him to learn what a firefighter looks like in gear.” Buddy is being trained through a program called Dogs In Vests.

Fire destroys Hewitt machine shed

Investigators have not determined what caused the fire that destroyed a storage shed in the Town of Hewitt in Marathon County early Tuesday morning. Firefighters were paged to Pine Haven Road, east of County Highway J, just after 5 a.m. Hewitt Fire Chief Robin Siikarla tells NewsChannel 7 the shed was used to store hay bales and machinery.

Shawano County house explosion injures 4

At least four people were hurt in a house explosion Monday afternoon. Several fire departments responded just before 4 p.m. to the site in the town of Grant. Officials said four people were taken to hospitals via helicopter for their injuries. Sheriff's detective sergeant Gordon Kowaleski says the names and ages of the injured aren't being made public right now.

De Pere Fire Department looks to install "dry" hydrants

The De Pere Fire Department learned a few lessons from fighting a massive fire on Broadway in April. Crews used water from the Fox River to fight the flames, which helped firefighters gain control over the blaze. “That was the turning point in that fire fight where we were losing ground. We were able to gain control of that fire with the additional water flow we could pull from the Fox River,” said De Pere Fire Chief, Alan Matzke.

Dryer fire causes $25,000 in damages to Green Bay hotel

The Green Bay Metro Fire Department credits an automatic sprinkler system with containing a fire that broke out at the Hilton Garden Inn. Crews say they were called to the hotel just after 1 am Sunday. When they arrived, firefighters say they found moderate smoke on the first floor and saw occupants evacuating the building.

Racine Fire Department calls increased 13% from 2017 to 2018

After making 16,833 responses in 2017, the Racine Fire Department saw its responses grow by 13% in 2018, up to 19,023 total. “We’re going on over 1,000 calls a month,” Fire Chief Steve Hansen told the Racine Police and Fire Commission on Sept. 9. However, fires made up a tiny portion of the increase.

89 years after responding to its first call, this historic fire pumper truck will be returning to West Allis

Almost exactly 89 years after a Peter Pirsch & Sons fire pumper truck responded to its first emergency call for the West Allis Fire Department, the very same vehicle is now set to rejoin the ranks. The department raised about $15,000 in 10 months to buy it back from a private collector and is preparing to use the old fire engine to enhance its educational and community outreach programs.

Fond du Lac Firefighters remind their community how to be ready for a fire

New Oconomowoc public safety building will cost more than $10 million

The city of Oconomowoc will get a new public safety building, after common council action Sept. 17 on the project, which has been debated for several years. A divided council voted 5-3 to approve the construction contract for the project, estimated at $10.715 million. Aldermen Charlie Shaw, Tom Strey, Andy Rogers, Kevin Ellis and Derek Zwart voted in favor of the facility, while Matt Rosek, Karen Spiegelberg and Lou Kowieski voted no.

Volunteer fire departments struggling to find volunteers

Rural communities rely on volunteer fire departments to be there when disaster shows its face. Many of those departments are finding it difficult to find volunteers to join their ranks and it’s proving to be an issue that can impact entire communities. West Bend Fire Department using major FEMA grant to improve firefighter safety

Every day, firefighters are asked to enter burning buildings while knowing the toxins they're exposed to inside could eventually kill them. Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue: 3 dead in morning fire at group home

Three people are confirmed dead in a Thursday morning fire at a group home for cognitively disabled people in the city. Around 6 a.m. Thursday morning, City of Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue responded to a home in the 600 block of South Military Road. The residence is rented out for those with cognitive disabilities who can live on their own, so they may live in a group setting, Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue Chief Peter O’Leary said.
