Milwaukee fire station evacuated after suspicious package discovered

A Milwaukee fire station and surrounding neighborhood were evacuated Monday night after a suspicious package was found. Station 36 located at 4060 N. 27th St. was evacuated shortly before 8 p.m. along with nearby businesses. Milwaukee police responded and were being assisted by Milwaukee firefighters.

Minocqua Fire Department's Budget Sparks Dismay

A Minocqua Fire and Rescue Department official said it “was a slap in the face” after the town board refused to add additional money to the fire department’s budget for 2020 and to make the fire chief a full time, paid position. Dog recovering after falling through ice on the Fox River in Little Chute

A dog is recovering Saturday night after falling through the ice on the Fox River. The Fox Valley Metro Police Department and Little Chute Fire Department responded to the emergency, saying the dog was swimming but having trouble staying above water. Officer Gueli shared his body camera footage that captures the moment firefighters rescued the dog from the river.

New Milwaukee firefighter achieved his dreams, then got a memento of his grandfather's bravery in a 1930 theater fire

When smoke filled a crowded Milwaukee theater 89 years ago this month, Harvey Krause didn’t shout “fire.” As head usher, the 18-year-old Krause knew he had a job to do. Calmly he directed all 1,000 cinemagoers onto the street, and the Milwaukee Fire Department commended him for his bravery. “Discipline and quick thinking are often spoken about but rarely understood, because they are seldom put to an actual test,” Depression-era Fire Commissioner Joseph Stein said at the time.

SUV destroyed in Oconto fire

No one was hurt when an SUV caught fire in Oconto early Friday morning. At about 6:54 a.m., Oconto firefighters were called to the 2700 block of Logtown Rd. in the Town of Oconto. A 2016 Chevrolet Equinox was on fire about 25 feet away from a home. Crews arrived to find the unoccupied vehicle engulfed in flames.

Oldest Milwaukee Fire recruit becomes a firefighter at age 51

At an age many Milwaukee Firefighters are retiring from the department Hernan Galarza just got sworn in as a Milwaukee Firefighter Thursday evening. At age 51, he is the oldest recruit to successfully make it through the program. “I have always wanted to serve. I always wanted to do something for the community,” said Galarza.

Madison: Program trains first responders to respond to farm accidents

Eau Claire Fire Department employee sentenced after embezzlement investigation

An Eau Claire Fire Department employee has been sentenced after an investigation regarding embezzlement. Court documents show William Drath has been sentenced to three years of probation and 480 hours of community service. Drath, a former firefighter union treasurer, was accused of embezzling more than $18,000.

Oshkosh fire sends three people to the hospital

Firefighters are still at the scene of a house fire in Oshkosh. The scene is located at Jackson Street and Prospect Avenue. Man taken to burn center with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries after Racine house fire

Firefighters on Thursday morning, Nov. 14 responded to the scene of a house fire near 10th and Racine Street in Racine. Racine police say one man was taken to the burn center with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries. A second man was taken to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. No additional details have been released -- including the cause of the fire or the amount of damage sustained.

Bellevue Fire Department protects apartment building from car fire

Bellevue firefighters credit a quick response for preventing a car fire from spreading to an apartment building just about 10 feet away. Potential site identified for new South Side fire station in La Crosse

Menomonee Falls Police and Fire Commission will use executive search firm to find new fire chief

The Menomonee Falls Police and Fire Commission has taken the first step toward hiring a fire chief, agreeing Nov. 11 to use an executive search firm to conduct the search. Follow Up: MPD seeks man wanted in shooting that wounded off-duty firefighter: ‘It shouldn’t happen’

Milwaukee police released new information on Tuesday, Nov. 12 about the 25-year-old man sought in connection with the shooting of an off-duty firefighter near 105th Street and Cameron Avenue on Monday. The shooter was described as black, standing between 5'9" and 5'11" tall, with light skin. Officials said he was wearing a ski mask.

Off-duty Milwaukee firefighter shot in attempted armed robbery

An off-duty Milwaukee firefighter was shot at a home near North 105th Street and West Cameron Avenue around 5:35 p.m. Monday. The 35-year-old firefighter was shot in the thigh, and is expected to be okay. Police have not confirmed what led to the shooting. Sources said the suspect was trying to steal the victim's car at the time of the shooting.

Madison's fire chief: City falls short in prompt ambulance response, needs ninth ambulance

Madison’s fire chief is hoping the Common Council approves a budget amendment for a ninth ambulance to lower the response time for the city’s Southeast Side. Madison Fire Chief Steven Davis wrote in his blog on Monday that the city falls short in providing “prompt ambulance transport” to the Southeast side, despite there being a newly built Fire Station 14 in the area.
