Township in Ohio repurposes fire hose into school safety locks

An area fire department and school district are giving retired fire hoses a second chance to save lives by repurposing the hoses into door sleeves at Northridge Local Schools. South Carolina bill aims to redefine firefighter, changing healthcare benefits

When firefighters show up to a blaze or medical emergency across much of the United States, they most likely are volunteers. VIDEO: House explosion in Massachusetts shakes neighboring homes; No reports of injuries

Firefighters worked to keep a huge fire from spreading in Truro Friday morning after a house exploded. There were no reports of injuries, as the fire chief did not believe anyone was home at the time. The blast on First Light Lane shook houses in neighboring towns, people on social media reported. More Wisconsin women look to firefighting as a career

New Indiana law helps protect firefighters from toxic chemicals

A new law signed Thursday by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb will help protect Hoosier firefighters from the toxic chemicals known as PFAS. But it stops short of actually banning cancer-causing compounds. House Bill 1219, which was passed unanimously at the state house, will require the monitoring of PFAS levels in firefighters' blood because the so-called "forever chemicals" have been linked to multiple cancers.

North Carolina firefighter will run for a full day to advocate for cancer screenings

VIDEO: Firefighters battle fire at closed tavern in Oregon

PHOTOS: Firefighters were called to fight a fire at an abandoned tavern in North Portland on Wednesday night. The call came in at about 7:30 p.m. The fire was at The Barn Tavern at 7421 North Denver Ave. According to Portland firefighters, the building was on their “unsafe building list” and there have been eight fires at the location in the last 12 months.

City council reacts to Georgia firefighter’s plea for help after off-duty injury

An Atlanta city council member is fighting to protect first responders who get hurt while choosing to respond to emergencies while off-duty.
