January is Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month

Occupational cancer is now the leading cause of death among firefighters, surpassing heart disease. January is “Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month.” The International Association of Fire Fighters and the Fire Fighters Cancer Support Network are teaming up to reduce the impact of cancer on firefighters with education and prevention resources for departments across the nation and here in North Carolina.

Maryland county using fire trucks to transport low priority patients

COVID-19 cases in Maryland continue to skyrocket and as of Monday, 2,746 people are hospitalized with the virus. Not only is it overwhelming hospitals, but it's impacting fire and EMS operations. "We've noticed an increase call volume in EMS, primarily patients who believe they are experiencing symptoms of COVID," said Shannon Stallings, chief of the Bowleys Quarters Volunteer Fire Department.

The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York is getting a new name

In celebration of its 150th anniversary, The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York is giving itself a new name. As of this month, the group will be known as The Firefighters’ Association of the State of New York (FASNY). The organization’s board voted unanimously to change its name at a December meeting.

Maryland fire department adds $1.3 million ladder truck to fleet

House destroyed in New York fire

PHOTOS: A vacant house has been destroyed in a fire on the south side of Syracuse early Wednesday morning. Emergency crews were dispatched at 3:00 a.m. to the house on Glenwood Avenue near Craddock Street. Firefighters help Kentucky ‘brothers and sisters’ after storms

VIDEO: Georgia firefighters rescue man who fell two-stories into air vent

Atlanta firefighters had to perform a vertical rescue after a grate gave way and let a man fall down an air shaft, officials said. It happened around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at One Coca-Cola Plaza.
