Firefighters who saved the historic Whiskey Row are being celebrated 'Kentucky style'

VIDEO: What better way to say 'thank you' than with a bottle of bourbon? That's what Old Forester is doing to commemorate the Firefighters who saved Whiskey Row seven years ago. The historic block in Downtown Louisville caught fire on July 7, 2015, and was nearly destroyed. Firefighters managed to safely put out the fire while also preserving the historic façade.

4 types of robots currently used to aid first responders

First responders must handle various disaster response situations, ranging from simple fire extinguishing drills or minor accidents to huge disasters such as terrorist attacks. Florida firefighter paddles 80 open ocean miles for cystic fibrosis research

Florida fire rescue's new truck weighs 90,000 pounds, is 47 feet long and holds 500 gallons of water

PHOTOS: Just before 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dan Naughton stood atop a 6,000-pound truck holding a bucket of water. Moments earlier, it had been filled by firefighters from the hose of a smaller truck. Naughton faced the crowd beneath him, and slowly emptied the bucket into the truck’s 500-gallon tank. As the last droplet trickled out, onlookers cheered, and Naughton – a Palm Beach County Fire Rescue driver – smiled back.

Massachusetts fire department divers recover lost diamond ring from river

VIDEO: A Chicago woman is expressing her gratitude to members of the Cambridge Fire Department Dive Team and Marine Unit after they helped find her diamond ring that fell into the Charles River in Massachusetts. Cambridge Fire Lt. Stephen Capuccio said those Dive Team and Marine Unit members were working a detail on the Charles River on Sunday when they were alerted about a lost ring at the Charlesgate Yacht Club.

Tornado touches down in Ohio; Fire, police stations damaged

Goshen Township Administrator Steve Pegram held a press conference Thursday after a tornado touched down Wednesday, damaging multiple buildings and knocking down trees. On Wednesday, Pegram declared a state of emergency for Goshen Township. A preliminary National Weather Service survey Thursday declared the tornado was an EF2 tornado.

'The toughest two minutes in sports': Minnesota firefighters headed to North Dakota for firefighter challenge

VIDEO: 3 Firefighters injured while battling warehouse fire in Kentucky neighborhood

Three firefighters were injured while battling a warehouse fire that took nearly 100 firefighters and more than 30 firefighting tools to control. According to Louisville Fire Department Maj. The victim of yesterday’s Calhoun County kidnapping “could have been anyone,” according to Sheriff Matthew Wade. Instead, it was a woman known to most area law enforcement and emergency workers for almost three decades as a steady, steadying presence at crime scenes and accident sites. “She’s a super, super woman,” said Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown about Betty Cobb, 75, who was found Monday, bound with duct tape in the closet of an Anniston home hours after she was snatched from her home on Choccolocco Road in rural Calhoun County.

Fire-Rescue in Texas celebrates 150 years of service

July 4 marked the 150th anniversary of Dallas Fire-Rescue. On Monday morning at the Dallas Firefighter's Museum, DFR held a sesquicentennial appreciation block party. One-hundred and fifty years ago, in 1872, one unit of volunteer firefighters was recognized by the City of Dallas. The department has since grown to 2,000 members with 58 fire stations.

Colorado fire-rescue heads toward in-house advanced life support unit

Boulder Fire-Rescue is making progress on its goal to upgrade the level of care its emergency respondents can provide in the field. With a wall of flames blocking the front door, Eli Hessler and his 14-year-old daughter safely fled their burning home at Broad and First streets when a massive fire broke out about 2 p.m. Thursday. Hessler’s wife, Steph, and the couple’s two other children were not home at the time. Hessler and his family were heartbroken that their three dogs perished in the multiple-alarm blaze that sent up columns of smoke that could be seen six miles away.
